DLR Life Report Update (8/31/14) | We Moved to Disneyland!! Now What…?

Chapter 156
Give Me Something Good to Eat

We headed into Toontown and found out that we were literally moments too late to be able to meet the characters there. This area of the park was already closing down soon to prepare for fireworks, and they had cut the lines off even though the characters were still out and about. Oh well, we decided. There’s always next year!

Leaving Toontown, we decided to do our first round of trick-or-treating.

The cast members were already being fairly generous with their treats even though the party was just getting underway.

Once again, we had the interaction in which the cast member had no idea what my costume was (I think she asked if the cat had stolen the mouse ears or something), but then she cracked up when we explained it. The cast members are surrounded by the cats all the time backstage, so they definitely “get it.”

There was another of the many giant Mickey ghosts back in Fantasyland.

We also decided to take a few more Small World pictures.

Passing back through Fantasyland, we did another Treat Trail by Storybook Land.

My favorite Treat Trail was next, as they had totally decked out the Village Haus restaurant both inside and out.

By this point, our candy bags were starting to get pretty darn full, and the night was still quite young.

We walked along Big Thunder Trail because we had seen there were supposed to be characters meeting by the ranch. The ranch itself was actually yet another Treat Trail, so we went through there next. We saw that Mickey and Minnie were meeting in another set of Halloween costumes just outside the ranch, but their line was about an hour and we couldn’t really justify waiting. Instead, we kept walking along and saw that they were projecting the Halloween Party logo onto a mist screen in the mouth of one of the caves.

We made our way toward New Orleans Square next and saw the fog that had overtaken the Rivers of America.

While we waited in line for another Treat Trail (are you starting to sense a pattern?), I had Tracy take another picture of my costume.

Not really sure where to go next, we made our way into Critter Country and got in line to meet the Winnie the Pooh characters. We were sad that not all of them dress up here for Halloween like I know they do at the WDW Halloween Party, but at least Pooh had a festive outfit. The line took a while, and I started getting a little anxious about the prospect of missing other parts of the party because we were spending too long waiting. I’d say the one downfall of the Halloween Party is that there is so much to do and not really a whole lot of time to do it in.

I was mostly worried that we were going to miss the Cadaver Dans as they were one of the things I was most excited to see. As they came out and started singing their set over on the Rivers of America, they actually pumped the music into Critter Country. We heard them sing “Grim Grinning Ghosts,” and then the audio went back to the regular Halloween Party loop. Not sure what was going on over on the Rivers of America—was that the whole show?—we got back to the task at hand, which was finally getting to the front of the characters line.

Tigger seemed to be a big fan of my costume, though I’m not sure if he actually “got it” or just liked the orange striped cat on my shirt. Eeyore was fun as always, and he continues to be one of Tracy’s all-time favorites.

Pooh was looking very festive in his bee costume. We thought it was worth the wait to get a picture with such a lovable bear.

Booking it back to the Rivers of America, we were very glad to see that we hadn’t missed the show after all. The Dans were still in full swing, and their set was so incredibly cool.

Here’s a quick video I took during the show. The quality isn’t great, but you’ll have to take my word for it that this show is certainly a must-see as part of the Halloween Party.

I was so glad we hadn’t missed it and felt a wave of relief now that I was pretty sure we’d be able to fit in almost everything we wanted to do tonight.

It was our DAS time for the Haunted Mansion. We never would have waited in line for the attraction without the card, but it was the only thing we planned on riding tonight (and we felt like it was especially fitting since this was our personal Halloween).

This time, we got stopped in front of Jack and Zero (always a nice place to be held up).

We walked toward Frontierland next to see the Piratepalooza over at Rancho del Zocalo.

The setup for this experience was a little bizarre. It was another Treat Trail, but Donald, Chip, and Dale were all hanging out in their pirate costumes in a roped off area in the middle of the line. People weren’t actually able to “meet” them per say, but you could watch their antics.
