DLR Life Report Update (10/6/14) | We Moved to Disneyland!! Now What…?

Chapter 163
Deadly Dans and Death by Chocolate

After leaving Big Thunder Ranch, we walked over to the Haunted Mansion. This week’s Limited Time Magic featured the Cadaver Dans performing in the light of day on the balcony of the moldering sanctum.

They had already started their show by the time we got back to the attraction.

Luckily, I had a DAS time, and we were able to stand in the alternate queue to watch the performance while everyone else was getting shuffled along through the line.

This video is a little disjointed, but it shows a few highlights from what we could see.

After standing there for a bit, we felt like we should probably move along and actually head into the attraction.

We rode the Mansion and then I insisted that we ride Pirates (my favorite for my birthday, after all).

Next, we had to figure out what to do for dinner since our reservation hadn’t worked out. I decided that Plaza Inn Fried Chicken was as good a birthday meal as pretty much anything else I could think of, so we headed over there to grab a plate.

I think it’s impossible for this deliciousness to be a letdown, so I was still quite happy with our celebratory dinner.

As we finished eating, we heard the announcement that the Halloween Party was starting, which was our subtle cue to GET OUT! Walking past Main Street Station, we saw a couple villains we hadn’t noticed at our party the previous week—Dr. Facillier and the Queen of Hearts.

While we could have park hopped over to DCA, we decided to head home instead. We’d had a pretty long afternoon at Disneyland, and Tracy still had to bake my birthday cake. En route back to Mickey and Friends, I finally snapped a decent picture of the Mickey, Minnie, and Donald. Our tram announcer actually told us that these figures came from Tokyo Disneyland, where they had been used in a completely different scene for some sort of anniversary celebration. In that setup, Mickey was actually helping Minnie out of a carriage, which explains their slightly odd positions. It’s funny how these sorts of props get reused.

Back home, Tracy made me a “death by chocolate” bundt cake based on a recipe she’d found on Pinterest. It included a box of devil’s food cake mix and a box of instant pudding as well as lots of chocolate chips. It was probably the most decadent, rich thing I’ve ever eaten, but it was absolutely delicious!! (Here’s the recipe in case you’re interested).

Just conducting the birthday song like a brat.

Mid-puff.

On the whole, it had been quite the excellent birthday. I got some great loot, had fun at the parks, and then went into a food coma. Pretty much everything you can hope for.
