We headed back to Big Thunder Ranch next because it already felt like it had been far too long since we’d seen our animal friends. We went into the goat enclosure for a while because they were all wearing festive bandanas.

Our new best friend was Jane. She liked to be scratched between the shoulder blades.

She even tilted her head back and groaned a little when we found just the right spot on her neck.

Pocahontas was in the back pen again, and though you can’t really tell from this picture, she was being very nice again as well.

We went back to the Jamboree to see what characters we could meet. We flagged down Pluto to take a picture with us, but I blinked at exactly the wrong time.

We couldn’t corner Mickey and Minnie because they had a long line and were about to be going on their break, but we still photographed them from afar.

We tried out the wheel you could spin in order to get your fortune.

Neither Tracy nor I landed on the one we were hoping for!

Even though it was crowded, we decided to wait for the Conjure a Villain tent to see who we could meet.

I think we had to sit in the queue for two different sets of people going in, but it was finally our turn. We had kept hearing the loud rumbling noises from outside the tent, so we had NO idea what to expect once we got inside.

The cast member explained that we had the power to summon one of the villains through the magic mirror, and she picked out a little girl from the group to wave the magic wand over the cauldron as we said the magic words (“higgitus piggitus!”). It was actually really funny how the lights flashed and the cauldron started steaming as the little girl waved her wand. She FREAKED OUT and dropped the wand, dashing back to her parents right as the Evil Queen materialized.

It was definitely a cool effect and a fun little experience to be added to this area for Halloween. We waited in the line to meet the Queen herself. When we got to the front, Tracy told her that we liked her pretty pout (as prompted by one of the cast members). She responded, “I don’t know what you’re talking about—that’s just how my face looks.”

After we were done with the Queen, we left the Jamboree and walked over to Fantasyland. After riding Casey Jr., we decided to get dinner at the Village Haus. I’d read good things about the special Wicked Grilled Chicken Sandwich, so we decided to give it a try.

While we were both a little skeptical because grilled chicken sandwiches rarely taste that good, we were pleasantly surprised by this one. It was very flavorful, and both of us were happy with the choice.

We rode “it’s a small world” after dinner, but then we decided to head home. We were getting a very important (though temporary) addition to our family this evening.

Before our fateful trip to CO, you may remember that Tracy and I had a “playdate” with her coworker Soc’s dog, Biscuit. Well, this evening, Soc and his family were off to Hawaii, and we would have Biscuit for the next 9 days.

He was in much better spirits when he arrived than he had been when Soc had dropped him off last time, though he was still a little anxious throughout the first evening.

Luckily, as the days passed, he quickly adapted to life with us, and we became fast friends.

I loved having some company while I worked from home, though walking this geriatric pup every time I thought he might need to use the bathroom definitely limited my productivity throughout the week.

Overview of September 2013

Random Photo of the Month

Our favorite part about the Titanic (our car that we had during the flood) was this sweet analog clock on the dashboard. I can’t think of anything that could better say, “we are 50 years too young to be driving this car.”

Total Days This Month Spent Visiting Disneyland Parks

Total Days Spent at Disneyland Since First Getting Our Passes
82

Favorite Disney Snack
Pumpkin Beignets from Mint Julep Bar (These may not have tasted super “pumpkiny,” but they were still really good! Definitely a fun holiday change-up to the already delicious regular recipe)

Favorite Disney Meal
Muffaletta from French Market (This was something of a Sophie’s Choice between the Muffaletta and the Mac and Cheese Pizza, but I think the sandwich eked out a win—if only barely. It was cool to have this ACTUAL New Orleans staple in New Orleans Square, and I’m such a sucker for olive tapenade)

Number of Buckets of Water Hauled Out During the Flood
10 million (Okay, maybe that’s just what it felt like…)

Favorite Guilty-Pleasure TV Show
New Girl (I feel a lot less guilty about this “guilty-pleasure” TV show. It’s actually a high-quality show—at least most of the time—and I was really glad to discover it on Netflix. I’d actually tried watching the pilot way back when I was in NYC and thought it was a little too goofy, even for me. But I feel like they toned that down enough starting with the second episode that the show is really fun without ever being TOO over-the-top. I’m a fan)
