August 2014 DLR Report Update (9/29/14) | No Longer Californians, but Still Annual Passholders

Chapter 6
Just Several Forkfuls of Sugar

I wish this picture had turned out better, because it was supposed to show how the lights in the sconces on the castle are stained in shades of purple and pink to match all the Cheshire Cat depictions around. This was our first time noticing that detail.

As we rounded the corner back out of Fantasyland, we saw several of the ducklings trying to cross the road. Of course, this child came up and chased the poor things right as I tried to take the picture. (Shocker: her parents were oblivious and didn’t seem to care what their kid was up to).

We walked through the shops on Main Street as we made our way toward the Disneyland exit, and I took a few photos of the new treats they’d gotten into Candy Palace sometime in the last few months.

When we got to the front of the park, the All-American College Band was playing by the train station.

Heading out into the esplanade, the sunset was gorgeous.

It was the first time we’d gone into DCA during this trip, and we had a time for Soarin’ Over California to use.

After the ride, we went back by Grizzly River Run to look for our pal Francisco. Of course he was there! Some things never change.

We even got to pet him.

As crazy as it sounds, we decided to hop all the way back over to Disneyland at this point because we were craving desserts that were only available at Jolly Holiday.

I’ll never cease to be amazed by all the great Mary Poppins homages in this restaurant.

Our desserts of choice were the new Banana Cream Eclair for Tracy and the Pineapple Bundt Cake for me.

I was a big fan of my dessert, and I know Tracy enjoyed hers too. It was so much food, though, that she wasn’t able to finish and actually had to throw some out—blasphemy in Disneyland, I know.

Our last attraction of the night was Pirates of the Caribbean, and I grabbed a quick photo of us on board while we were stuck waiting in the unload zone for a few minutes. I mostly just wanted to show off Tracy’s Halloween Mickey ears because this was the first time she’d worn them this season.

It had gotten pretty late by this point, so we made our way back to the hotel. We had two more workdays left this week, after all. Crossing Harbor to get back over to the Fairfield Inn, we once again realized just how scummy that road really is. Since we would basically always park at Mickey and Friends when we were locals, we rarely ventured off Disney property on foot, so it’s always crazy to realize how immediately you enter the “real world” again after leaving Disneyland and walking just a handful of steps to the east. It never felt dangerous, per say, because there were always so many people around, but it’s certainly not the best part of Anaheim.

We were exhausted this evening after not sleeping very well the night before, so we were excited to hit the hay—and this time, I don’t think I stirred once until the alarm went off on Thursday morning.
