Something Wicked This Way Comes

After the Pixie Hollow Treat Trail, we decided to go to the front of the park and hit up the Annual Passholder exclusive Treat Trail inside the Opera House.

They had some fun spooky lighting and props around the lobby.

Just your average coffin.

Black cat!

When we got to the actual entrance to the Mr. Lincoln theatre, the cast members were handing out pre-packaged Rice Krispie treats with Anna and Elsa on them. I half-jokingly remarked that is was a pretty exciting “free” treat (that had really cost us the mere $750 that we each paid for our APs).

Inside the theatre, they were playing a classic Mickey Mouse cartoon—”Lonesome Ghosts.” We sat down for a few minutes to take a load off and eat a few pieces of candy.

As we exited the theatre, we got to see the new photo of the Sherman Brothers that had replaced Miley Cyrus in the “influential people” section. I’d say they’re a slightly better fit.

When we got outside, we saw that the line to meet the villains was way longer than anything we were willing to wait in, so I just tried to get up close to take my own photos of some of them between guests. I think this was the first time we’d ever seen Hades in person.

He actually started hamming it up for me as he waited for his next meet-and-greeter.

Jafar is always a favorite of ours (though not quite as rare).

Now that the sun had long set, we could see Main Street’s decorations all lit up.

As we took some photos in Town Square, we heard the music switch to indicate that the villains were about to have a “changing of the guard.” We had seen on social media that this little ceremony was one of the best additions to this year’s Halloween Party, so we were glad we had somehow timed it just right.

The parade gates opened and some spectral gents came stepping out, shrouded in mist.

Next, we heard the unmistakable clip-clop of a horse pulling a carriage.

And out came the villains who would be starting the next shift—including Cruella de Vil, Anastasia, Drizella, Lady Tremaine, Maleficent, and Dr. Facilier.

Tracy was snapping pictures on her phone while I took a video.

After that impressive display, Tracy and I decided to line up for pictures in front of the giant Mickey pumpkin in our costumes. When we had tried to do this the previous year, I had forgotten to turn the flash on, so the picture came out blurry, but this time I knew what I needed to do.

As we walked back into the heart of the park, I noticed that there was this huge area where there weren’t many people in the hub, so I took a fun picture of the castle flanked by the two inflatable Mickey pumpkins.

The castle forecourt was already blocked off in preparation for fireworks.

The constantly shifting colors reminds me of how they used to change all the time at Walt Disney World.

Even though we were starting to get into the mindset of fireworks, we still had plenty more to do before we started camping out, so we made our way toward New Orleans Square for the next exciting Halloween Party event.
