It was just about a week before my birthday, so we decided to celebrate with dinner at Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue. If you remember the previous year, we’d had a reservation on my actual birthday and then gotten a call that morning saying that the restaurant was closed because of bad weather. Luckily, today looked much less foreboding, so we were able to check right in for our reservation.

There was a bit of a wait, so we sat off to the side with our pager and looked at the decorations.

When they seated us, we were put at the same table as another party. Unlike other communal seating restaurants, though, they treated us as two completely separate parties. The server would go over to their side of the table and talk to them, and then she would come over to our side and repeat all the same stuff.

There aren’t too many decisions to be made when you “place your order” at this restaurant, but that was fine by us because we knew we liked everything there.

We were psyched when our smorgasbord of food came out.

I promise this is a “this food is delicious” face even though it doesn’t really look like one.

We were really happy with everything, just as we had been the first time we visited. The entertainment is also always a fun addition to the experience.

We learned last time that hot chocolate and other hot drinks are included with the price, so we got some for “dessert.”

We got so full from this meal—almost uncomfortably full—but it was worth it!

Overview of Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue Dining Experience
Service: Nothing too memorable, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing! 4/5
Atmosphere: There’s something so unique about this restaurant. I love having it be full-service while still being outdoors. The entertainment is also really fun. 5/5
Food: We love barbecue fare, and this is a great location for it. 4.5/5

First Visit?: No
Will Return?: Hopefully! We only have a few months until it closes for good, but we’re going to try to get one more visit in before then.

We took a couple more pictures with various decorations on the way out of the restaurant.

Next, we headed over to take another ride on Haunted Mansion Holiday.

The ride kept stopping, but it was in inopportune places.

Next, we had a time for Peter Pan’s Flight and enjoyed taking a spin through Never Land.

We headed toward the exit amid lots and lots of people.

We also stopped into some stores to check out their decorations and merchandise.

I love this Lincoln pumpkin.

We also really liked some of this artwork at the Disneyland Gallery.

Taking one more picture of the pumpkins as we left, we headed back to the hotel for the night.
